about us ...
the history
The business was established in 1997 when Geoff Ward (see below) saw a niche in the market to provide inexpensive, 2nd user computer systems. Using his extensive knowledge of PC systems ...
the people
We're a fun loving bunch who don't take things very seriously (except the quality of our products & our workmanship), least of all ourselves. So when you come in, bring your sense of humour in with you.
Geoff Ward (Owner & Snr Technician)
Foolishly Geoff agreed for me to create this website, so I have complete control of the website ... and the pictures!! Isn't he a handsome chap! Bless him. It could have been worse, there is one of him with a very dodgy perm! (I'll see if I can dig it out!). Anyway, let me introduce you to Geoff (aka Boss, Sir etc). He's got a great range of technical skills built on a solid foundation of quality customer service.
When working as a freelance computer trainer, he gained valuable knowledge on what it is that people want & need from the time they spend at the keyboard. He has channelled this into the business & technical practices used here at Mr Chips.
Key skills: hardware & office applications
In his spare time (not that he has much ... he tends to be at the shop 7 days a week!) he enjoys the company of his friends and putting his feet up and settling down with a good book & a wee dram of whisky!
Simon Sutherill (Part-time Technician & Senior Tea-boy!)
It's really hard talking about yourself! But here goes! Firstly, let me draw you attention to the picture of that cute boy! Nothing has changed! I'm still just as cute now! Well I work here two days a week (typically Tuesday & Saturday) and make & drink lots of coffee! In addition to my tea/coffee making duties I do all of the odd technical jobs. Geoff & I have skills which compliment each other. Wherever he has a technical weakness, it tends to be one of my strengths (and vice versa). I'm a Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE+I) and enjoy problem solving.
Key skills: networking, servers & operating systems
When I'm not at the shop I'm a full-time dad to my beautiful daughter Holly (3½) and housekeeper. I thoroughly enjoy spending time with her. Every day is a play day. We both dress up, sing, dance, make things etc. It's great fun. Probably the most rewarding job anyone could have. With my part-time job here a close second place!
Patryk Stramski (Part-time Technician & Junior Tea-boy!)
Patryk is our Polish technican. Whilst he works full-time as teacher of English in his hometown of Przemysl in south-east Poland, he is our part-time holiday boy! Whilst he has only been to England once before, he would like to call Spalding his second home.
Having studied IT for a number of years, he has a fantastic all-round knowledge. That combined with his passion for technology makes him a huge asset to the team.
Key skills: all round nice guy, media & internet technologies
When not teaching or working here, Patryk loves cycling and is a massive war enthusiast (particularly WWII). He thoroughly enjoyed the Imperial War Museum on his last visit!
